…I’m going to get the best hummingbird shots ever! Until then, I’ll just have to keep practicing and hope that you find them at least slightly as exciting as I do.
If you’ve seen my bazillions of hummer shots over the past couple years, you’ll know that they’re usually by our feeder with the dangling beads. Well, we still have that feeder in the tree where it’s been for years but we’ve added another one into the mix on our front porch.
I never really thought about how the hummers might appreciate a perch to rest on while they dine and they seem to like it a lot. We’ve only had it out there 2 days but it has regular visitors now and, for some reason, we can get a lot closer to them at this feeder. And that means more photos!
So that perfect shot may be coming in the near future…

Amazing shots!! Wikipedia states: “They hover in mid-air by rapidly flapping their wings 12–80 times per second. They can fly at speeds exceeding 15 m/s (54 km/h; 34 mph); They are also the only group of birds with the ability to fly backwards. Individuals from some species of hummingbirds weigh less than a penny.” And, you got ALL these shots!

Ah yes, the perfect shot…………to me these are those. But I understand. The masterpiece is always “yet to come”. It is what keeps us motivated I think.

Hummers are such amazing little creatures! It’s fun to see them at rest, perched on your feeder, Candace! It’s quite a different view of them:)

Candace, these are wonderful! I just love these little guys, but have had very little success in photographing them very well. Really love the motion you captured in the second one.
